About GDM

The Society of Didactics of Mathematics (Gesellschaft für Didaktik der Mathematik, GDM) is a scientific society pursuing the goal to foster mathematics education in particular in German-speaking countries. It seeks cooperation with the respective institutions in other countries. The GDM was founded in 1975 in Saarbrücken, Germany.

We care for mathematics education at all ages and try to answer, among others, questions like: What can and what should students learn in mathematics? How can certain content or competences be taught? How can students attain a positive attitude toward mathematics?

  • Since 01.10.2021 Karoline Haier is the new Managing Director of the GDM and supports the Board.
  • Reinhard Oldenburg was elected as the new 1st Chairman of GDM at the GDM General Meeting on 25.03.2021. He replaces Andreas Eichler, who was for four years 1st Chairman of the GDM.
